Why Does God Allow Bad Things To Happen?

When difficult circumstances hit, it’s easy to feel like the world is crumbling around us. Whether it’s the heart-wrenching loss of a loved one or a health scare that shakes your foundation, these moments can leave us feeling lost and confused. We often turn to God, hoping for comfort, but then the big question hits: “Why would He let this happen?” In those heavy moments of despair, it can feel like there’s no way out, yet somehow, we might catch glimpses of hope and feel God’s presence nudging us forward.

You Are Not Alone in Your Suffering

The Bible gives us powerful examples of individuals who faced tremendous suffering yet held on to their faith. Take the Apostle Paul, for instance. He endured shipwrecks, beatings, and imprisonment, yet he wrote about joy and hope from his prison cell. In Philippians 4:12-13, Paul reflects on how he learned to find contentment in every situation, showing us that even in our darkest hours, faith can provide strength and resilience. These stories remind us that, through pain, we can draw closer to God and discover a deeper purpose in our struggles.

Finding God in Our Pain

So, why does God allow bad things to happen? It’s a tough question that many of us wrestle with. There really is no easy answer. One perspective is that God gave us free will, and with that comes the possibility of choosing paths that lead to pain and suffering—not just for ourselves but for others too. Jesus knew suffering as well. The Bible tells us that he was despised and rejected and knew all about grief. But the Bible also tells us that he came to rescue us from our suffering, from sin and from death. And he has promised that one day he will come again and in that day he will wipe away the tears from the faces of all who belong to him. And the good news is that all of us can belong to him! In fact, he invites us to come to him with these words: “Come to me, all who labor and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

Seek Support

When tough times hit, it’s easy to feel isolated and overwhelmed. But remember, you don’t have to face your struggles by yourself. God invites us to lean on Him, but He also encourages us to seek support from those around us. Connecting with friends, family, or a supportive community can provide comfort, perspective, and encouragement. Sharing your burdens with others not only lightens the load but also fosters meaningful relationships that remind you you’re not alone on this journey. Whether it’s through prayer, honest conversations, or simply spending time together, there’s strength in community that can help you navigate the challenges ahead.
